K1 Center - K1-MET (2019 - 2023)
The Metallurgical Competence Center K1-MET aims to innovate the iron- and steel making industry. The TU Wien is part of the research towards a virtual blast furnace. The current project aims to introduce detailed gas-particle chemistry into the raceway model implemented in the open-source CFD toolbox OpenFOAM. New libraries to add liquid iron and slag will be implemented to obtain a comprehensible multi-fluid model.
Modules to be implemented for the next generation raceway model.
A new detailed particle conversion model will be implemented to extract details of the on going gas-solid conversion processes in the raceway zone.
Oxygen mass transfer from the bulk fluid phase towards the particle center.
