REPORT: CFD optimisation and analysis of existing AD and Biorefineries

CFD optimisation and analysis of existing AD and Biorefineries Report is part of the European Project AGREFINE. The aim of this report is to provide a state-of-the-art review of reactor geometries, operating condition statuses and apply Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to several standalone Anaerobic Digestion (AD) and biorefinery plants that have the potential to be retrofitted and upscaled respectively. This report provides an overview in chapter 2 of the biorefineries operating in Europe, emphasizing the bioreactors used, their modes of operation, and their design and scale-up. In chapter 3, an overview of biogas plants, anaerobic digesters, and their operating condition statuses. Chapter 4 is the general background on computational fluid dynamics and the software packages. Lastly, in chapter 5, different geometries were evaluated with computational fluid dynamics.
